Bürgerverein Nürnberger Westen e. V.

The Bürgerverein Nürnberger Westen (citizens´association) is one of 34 such organisations in Nuremburg suburbs, and serves the city districts Großreuth and Kleinreuth near Schweinau, Höfen, Gaismannshof and Leyh. This is a mixed area that, apart from housing, also includes, a certain amount of industry, various trades and farming activity, but which is also confronted with massive environmental problems (e.g. heavy throughgoing traffic)

Our aim and purpose as laid down in our statutes is to protect the interests and needs, and further improve the quality of life, of the citizens, by our efforts to persuade the authorities to accept our suggestions for positive changes including measures to make the environment more attractive, as well as modifications to public services, and, where necessary, to remain focused on their realization/implementation.

We are free from affiliation to any political party, confessionally independent and our active members all work on an honorary basis. Our finances stem entirely from membership fees, sponsoring and voluntary contributions.

Information about our annual activities is contained in our free journal posted to members 4 times a year (Westinfo). We also provide current information via hand-distributed flyers, and mail separate invitations (to various social events) or other items. Although our Bürgerverein Nürnberger Westen currently has some 450 members, and is one of a number of active Bürgervereinen in Nuremberg, we need to enlarge our membership, in order to add more weight to justified demands/requests addressed to the city administration. During the 15 years of our existence we have achieved numerous improvements for the people living in this suburb. Nevertheless, further major tasks remain to be addressed. Let´s roll up our sleeves – we can achieve much more to improve the quality of life in this area!
